Trenchless Sewer Line Repair
Are you in need of a sewer pipe repair or replacement? Black Diamond Experts provides a trenchless sewer pipe repair solution for residents of Salt Lake City, Orem, Ogden, and surrounding areas along the Wasatch Front.
If only certain areas of your ground are wet around your home, or your yard is sinking in spots, or if multiple drains in your home are not draining, the main sewer pipe might be in need of repair or replacement. Deterioration of the sewer pipe is one of the primary causes for sewer pipe failure. The typical lifespan of sewage lines in the ground is about 50 years. Traditional methods of sewer pipe repair or replacement involve the digging a trench from your house to the city sewer line in the street. This can be costly and time consuming because trying to reach the sewer line beneath the ground may require extensive digging and that would disrupt landscaping, concrete paths or driveways, and even the sidewalk or street. Fortunately, alternative methods of sewer line repair are available.
Consider re-lining your sewer pipe when it fails. Repairing your sewer pipe can be done without digging a trench.
Trenchless Sewer Line Repair – The Less Destructive Alternative
Trenchless sewer line repair is a cutting-edge method of re-piping or installing a new lining inside of your existing pipe that doesn’t involve digging a trench to get to your underground sewer pipes.
The trenchless pipe restoration or replacement process can often be done in one day, or even in just a few hours. The process involves digging an access hole to allow our re-piping tool access to your current line. Once the new pipe or new lining is installed, the access hole is refilled. This trenchless method is a relatively quick process with minimal disruption to your landscaping and home. Trenchless pipe repair is often the preferred less expensive route when considering the amount of landscaping and concrete repair that a traditional trench dug repiping can cause.
The two common methods of trenchless repiping are:
- Pipe lining
- Pipe bursting
Cured in Place Pipe Lining Method
Having your current pipe re-lined is a great way to repair your sewer line without removing your old pipe. Re-lining your pipe means that you are putting a new pipe inside of an old pipe. Re-lining is ideal for pipes that are cracked, degraded with age, or have tree root penetration, but have not collapsed. We use the Perma-Lateral pipe-lining system which can be installed through clean-outs or open end pipes. The process requires only one access point, so no trench digging is needed. The Perma-Lateral pipe-lining system has been used since 1999 and meets NSF/ANSI Standard 14 certification.
The process of installation can be very quick. After clearing away any obstructions in your existing sewer line with our hot hydro-jetter and we verify the integrity of the pipe structure with our sewer camera, our drain specialist will then install the flexible tube coated with resin into your old pipe. Once the flexible tube is in place it is inflated so that it makes complete contact with the sides of the old pipe. The new pipe liner and resin will harden and form a new pipe that is just as strong as a traditional pipe but with the added benefits of not having any joints and is corrosion resistant. We then verify the process with another camera inspection.

Pipe Bursting Method
Pipe bursting is a quick way to replace your current underground pipe with a new pipe while at the same time breaking apart the old pipe. Pipe bursting is an ideal method for repiping if your current pipes have collapsed and a trench dug solution is an undesired alternative. This method works by inserting a pipe bursting tool into your current pipe. As the tool travels through the old pipe, it breaks the old pipe completely apart and pushes the broken pipe pieces aside into the surrounding soil while also pulling a new pipe behind it to take the place of the old pipe.
Trenchless re-piping and re-lining in general are less costly than digging a trench when you consider the restoration work that is required to your landscaping and concrete. It also saves money in permit costs.
